Work conditioning is a focused rehab program that helps patients regain the strength and ability needed to safely return to work after physical therapy. It uses job-related tasks to rebuild function and readiness.
Work conditioning programs typically last 4 to 8 weeks, with sessions running 1 to 3 hours, 2 to 3 times per week. The schedule can be adjusted to match the patient’s work routine.
During the first visit, a therapist assesses the injury and job responsibilities to determine the patient’s physical baseline, including mobility, strength, endurance, and flexibility.
An individualized plan is then developed using a mix of cardio, strength training, stretching, and job-related activities. Progress is monitored and shared with the referring physician. The program ends when the patient reaches full recovery or stops progressing.
Work-related injuries can be stressful and impact a person's ability to earn a living. Treatment focuses on fast pain relief, restoring mobility, strength, flexibility, and endurance, supporting recovery after surgery, and teaching patients how to manage and prevent future injuries.
